In January 2007, Howard and I started a journey to try and help older people use the internet. It quickly became clear that what was available for seniors was inappropriate, difficult to use and left them in an old person’s world. It also became clear, when we took the time to listen, that what they wanted from the internet was to be closer to their families.

Family is central to nearly all of our lives, in one way or another. Over two and a half years, we developed a free secure family communications site,

www.finerday.com, that is safe for grandchildren, easy to use for grandparents, and reaches the rest of us in our email systems or wherever we live on the internet. Underlying all of this is our passion that, in a complex world, “family matters” ....

We are “normal” family people. Both married once before, we have four boys between us. I have three and Howard has one, who lives with his mother. We face many common family issues:

  • Ageing parents, who we should make more time for.
  • Separated families.
  • A son joining the Marines, who may be in Afghanistan next year.
  • Exams, school, university, girlfriends.
  • A child who lives with his mother, several cities away.
  • Family abroad.
  • Aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews that we don’t see enough.

www.finerfamily.com is a website that, we hope, will provide FinerDay members a voice and allow anyone (member or not) to discuss family matters, from:

  • Family values
  • Grandparents rights
  • Grandchildren online
  • Children in the armed forces, to
  • Family separation ...

We will try and give you an “easy to use” family voice on the internet and welcome your comments.
